For all intents and purposes, we know the shape of the NHL and of the Rangers for this coming season.

Aside from some stragglers unlikely to make a major impact, free agency is done. Barring a major unforeseen twist, there are no superstars waiting to be traded. Some teams still have arbitration on their to-do lists, but the Blueshirts aren’t one of them.

If you were to take a guess at the Rangers’ opening night lineup today, it probably wouldn’t look any different than the guess you’d draw up on the eve of training camp.

So, with the NHL in something of a stop-and-pause period of the calendar, it’s as good a time as ever to zoom out and look at the biggest questions still remaining for the Rangers after the roster underwent some major changes.
