NextImg:Migrant contractor DocGo used unlicensed security guards at shelters

The contractor tapped by New York City to handle migrant services, DocGo, hired more than 50 unlicensed security guards for upstate hotels, state authorities found

Three subcontractors hired by DocGo — Trace Assets Protection Service and Wawanda Investigations and Security Company — were issued warnings on Friday by the New York Department of State, which oversees security licensing to subcontractors.

The companies were given until Wednesday to provide proper paperwork.

“Based on the preliminary findings of our audit, the Department has a plausible reason to conclude that the following persons are providing security services at the hotels without appropriate authorization and in violation of applicable law,” Whitney Clark, deputy secretary of state for business development, wrote in the letters, which were obtained by The Post.

Failure to respond “could result in suspension or revocation” of their licenses, Clark wrote. Clark alleges that Wawanda Investigations had 36 unlicensed guards and Trace Assets had 16 without proper paperwork.

The letters were first reported by The New York Times.

The scrutiny comes on the heels of Gov. Kathy Hochul ordering a review of services provided by DocGo, a medical services company, after voicing her displeasure with the company in response to a series of complaints.

“To protect the safety and well-being of all New Yorkers, Governor Hochul ordered a State review of DocGo’s contract to provide services to asylum seekers and that review is ongoing,” a spokesperson for the governor said.

DocGo contracted the two companies, which provided security for hotels in Albany, Schenectady and Erie counties, after obtaining a $432 million contract from the Big Apple to provide medical care, housing and food to migrants.

The company’s CEO said last month he hopes the NYC contract will help the company land a $4 billion deal with the feds to provide medical care for asylum seekers in the first few days after they cross the border.

Calls to the subcontractors were not immediately returned.

“Upon receiving letters on Friday about potential issues with our security vendor personnel’s registrations, DocGo acted swiftly to launch an immediate investigation,” a DocGo spokesperson said, claiming, “Our operations team has confirmed that since receiving the letter, no personnel who are not registered with the state have been deployed to work at our sites.

“Should the investigation substantiate these claims, we will take immediate corrective action, including the replacement of any security companies found in violation,” the spokesperson added.
