NextImg:Michelin-star meals to be served on the edge of space for $130K

It’s a Michelin-star mission. 

A tourism company is selling tickets for voyages in a luxury hot air balloon – a pressurized capsule attached to a stratospheric balloon – where brave gourmands will be served three-star fare on the edge of space. 

French company Zephalto’s low-carbon luxury air balloon, Céleste, will seat up to six passengers, plus two pilots on the six-hour voyage that kicks off at the end of 2024.

And the company is calling it “the experience of a lifetime.”

Think bottomless Champagne served from an elevation of 80,000 feet while gazing at a layer of the Earth’s stratosphere.

Reservations are on sale now for a cool $10,900 and the full trip will cost around $131,100. 

On Thursday, guests were allowed to book the six-hour experience departing from France, with three hours at cruising altitude, the company said in a news release.

The luxe flight will hit maximum altitude in a speedy 90 minutes and float above Earth in three hours – the equivalent of a multi-course meal, CNN reported.

Guests who partake in the luxury mission will be treated to fine-dining fare from a yet-to-be announced Michelin chef.

The Michelin-star chef has not been announced, however, guests of the journey will get a customized experience tailored to their dietary preferences and meal requests. 

Céleste was designed by the French architect, Joseph Dirand, who is also behind the restaurant Loulou at the Louvre.

“Zephalto’s vision is to offer guests a chance to view the Earth from a new perspective and witness its spherical curve, in the darkness of space but in the comfort of quality, hospitality and safety,” the company said in a statement.
