NextImg:Mets vs. Braves prediction: MLB odds, best bets, picks for Monday

Things have begun accordingly for the Atlanta Braves, who are picking up right where they left off in 2023 when they trounced MLB in expected batting metrics.

Many have been skeptical as to whether they could replicate their offensive dominance since much of that volume was inflated by Ronald Acuña Jr.’s historic season.

Hitting 307 home runs and averaging 5.84 runs per game again is probably unlikely, but Atlanta leads MLB in wRC+ (139) and OPS (.886).

The Braves will send Charlie Morton to the mound in Monday’s matchup against the Mets.

He pitched a stellar outing against the White Sox in his season debut, yielding zero runs and striking out six hitters in 5 ²/₃ innings.

Morton had his way with Mets’ hitters last year, accumulating 10.64 strikeouts per nine innings in three starts.

The Mets haven’t been able to hit the broad side of a barn against right-handed pitchers so far, sporting a .174 average and a 22.6 percent strikeout rate.

Julio Teheran is set to make his first start for the Mets; he was knocked around for an 8.18 ERA in 11 innings against Atlanta in 2023.

The former longtime member of the Braves just signed with the Mets this month as a plug-and-play for their injury-plagued rotation.

Run support could be tough to come by as the Mets haven’t been so Amazin’ at the plate. They rank last in wRC+ and have ice-cold batted-ball numbers through their first three series.

The Mets went 3-10 against the Braves and were outscored by 42 runs in those meetings. I can’t see how much will change based on the early product we’re watching.
