NextImg:Mets turning to Denyi Reyes and Tylor Megill for doubleheader

Denyi Reyes and Tylor Megill will be asked to give the Mets a chance as the starting pitchers in their scheduled doubleheader against the Braves on Monday.

After two straight rainouts, the NL East rivals are scheduled to play a single-admission doubleheader at Citi Field that will begin at 1:10 p.m.

The game that was postponed Saturday was rescheduled for Aug. 12.

The Mets originally hoped Max Scherzer would pitch Monday, but the right-hander’s 10-game suspension for violating MLB’s foreign substance rules won’t be complete until after the doubleheader (assuming both games are played).

That would leave him in position for a homecoming start in Detroit, during a three-game series that will begin Tuesday.

Reyes, who will start Game 1 of the doubleheader, has appeared in five games as reliever this season without allowing an earned run.

During the Mets’ last road trip he was optioned to Triple-A Syracuse to stretch out as a starter. He pitched 1 ²/₃ innings in a start for Syracuse and allowed two earned runs before he was recalled on Thursday.

Megill will be trying to rebound following two straight subpar performances in Mets losses.

The right-hander last pitched on April 23 in San Francisco, where he allowed four earned runs on six hits and one walk over four innings.

Jose Butto has been optioned to Syracuse, the Mets announced.

The right-hander pitched 4 ²/₃ innings against the Nationals on Tuesday and allowed two earned runs on four hits and six walks.

The Mets did not announce a corresponding roster move, but among the possibilities is activating Stephen Nogosek from the injured list.

Nogosek sustained a bone bruise on his right elbow when he was hit by a line drive on April 14 in Oakland.

The Mets will be playing their first doubleheader of the season.

Last year, they went 16-4 in games scheduled as part of doubleheaders. That included a sweep of the Braves on May 3.
