The Mets found a new home for Michael Tonkin.
Four days after designating Tonkin for assignment, the Mets announced Tuesday they traded the right-hander to the Minnesota Twins for cash considerations.
Tonkin, 34, earned one of the Mets’ final bullpen spots out of spring training.
He allowed eight runs (two earned) across three appearances, including a three-run 11th inning last Thursday, before the Mets DFA’d him.
That move created a roster spot for Julio Teheran, whom the Mets had signed last week to start Monday’s game against the Braves.
But Teheran was also DFA’d on Tuesday after he allowed four runs in 2 ⅔ innings, making way for right-hander Dedniel Núñez to be called up from Triple-A Syracuse.
Tonkin had a 4.28 ERA in 45 appearances for the Braves last season.
