The Mets lost, 6-4, completing the Citi Field sweep at the hands of the Toronto Blue Jays, and received more concerning news on top of that.
Highly touted Mets prospect Ronny Mauricio left a game with the Triple-A Mets affiliate in Syracuse with an injury following a collision at second base.
Mauricio went down after tagging a base stealer.
He was replaced by Luis Guillorme, and Syracuse held onto win, 5-3.
The Post’s Joel Sherman reported that Mauricio has a sprained ankle, and his status going forward has yet to be determined.
Mauricio, who homered earlier in the game for the eighth time this season, entered the contest hitting .335 with a .918 OPS.
The 22-year-old infielder has played the lion’s share of his Syracuse stint at shortstop and second base — which he is working on learning to play.
He has also been doing some work in left field.
With Daniel Vogelbach struggling in the DH spot and the Mets’ offense sputtering overall, fans have been calling for the hot-hitting Mauricio to get promoted to big leagues.
His injury and defensive learning curve could further hinder that from happening.
