JUPITER, Fla. — On a day the camp cuts began, Sean Reid-Foley became a different kind of roster casualty.

The Mets have placed the righty reliever on outright waivers, a source confirmed, which allows other teams to claim him and assume his $800,000 salary for 2025.

MLB.com first reported the development.

If Reid-Foley is not claimed, he would be removed from the 40-man roster and could be outrighted to the minors.

Nevertheless, because he has accrued more than three years of service time, he could reject that assignment and elect free agency.

Reid-Foley was a strong candidate for the Mets bullpen partly because he has no remaining minor league options and partly because of his strong 2024, when he pitched to a 1.66 ERA in 21 ²/₃ innings.

But injuries have continually popped up throughout his four seasons with the Mets.

Last year a right shoulder impingement cost him the final three months of the season and all of October.

The 29-year-old pitched once this spring, throwing 15 pitches and recording two outs Saturday, when he allowed a hit, walked a batter and sat at around 93-94 mph with his fastball.
