Try it freeLOS ANGELES — It’s fortuitous that the Mets headed to Colorado on Thursday night for three games — aka gimmes — against the woeful Rockies. The Mets certainly could use a nice pick-me-up — or three of them — after a most annoying, upsetting, excruciating defeat to the Dodgers.
Maybe a few easy wins will help the Mets feel a mile high and forget an all-time lost opportunity in Los Angeles. Another big series win against the $400M Dodgers was within their grasp, but too many missed chances and one stunningly bad defensive play cost the Mets in their 6-5 defeat and sent them out of here with an unsatisfying split.
Normally two out of four would be gratifying against this stacked Dodgers club. But in this case, the Mets looked like the better team in this matchup of behemoths for a change, and it might have caused them to kick themselves all the way to Colorado.
“We ended up splitting the series, but it felt like we gave that one away,” Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said. “We were sloppy today, we didn’t play well, and it cost us.”
