NextImg:Mets hope to strengthen injury riddled bullpen depth with Ty Adcock

With a bullpen group that has been particularly hard hit by injury, the Mets added another flier Thursday.

The Mets claimed Ty Adcock, who had been designated for assignment by the Tigers, and optioned the righty to Triple-A Syracuse.

Adcock is a 27-year-old who debuted with the Mariners last year when he allowed six earned runs in 15 ²/₃ innings (3.45 ERA) throwing only four-seam fastballs and sliders.

The North Carolina native has been DFA’d twice this season, first by the Mariners and then Tigers, and in total has allowed eight runs in 8 ¹/₃ Triple-A innings this year while striking out 11 and walking six.

Adock projects as depth for a team that has lost plenty.

Lefty Brooks Raley and the top southpaw at Triple-A, Nate Lavender, are both out for the season due to surgeries.

Righty Shintaro Fujinami, who was hoping to improve his command and be called up at some point, is on the IL with a right shoulder strain that, as of last week, the Mets did not believe would need surgery.

A couple of others who eventually could become options in Kyle Crick and Andre Scrubb also are on the injured list with Syracuse.
