Vladi Miguel Guerrero has powerful bloodlines and a potentially powerful bat.
The 17-year-old international prospect, son of Hall of Famer Vladimir Guerrero and brother of Blue Jays star Vladimir Guerrero Jr., is expected to sign with the Mets in January for about $120,000, sources told The Post’s Joel Sherman.
Vladi Miguel may not come with as much prospect hype as his older brother, but there is some intrigue about his tools.
“He’s a very interesting prospect, bat first as there’s plus-impact potential — above-average bat speed with potential plus-raw power as well,” a National League international scout told Sherman. “More of a power over offensive profile, not as pure a hitter as Vlad Jr. but comes with the same concerns as he’ll have to watch his body and is a fair athlete as well. There’s thunder in those from the left-hand side.”
An American League executive in charge of international scouting also mentioned that Vladi Miguel is bigger-bodied than Vlad Jr., who was listed at 6-foot-2 and 245 pounds this season but has lost weight in recent years while getting into better shape.
The AL executive said there is real power in Vladi Miguel’s bat, but did not think he would hit at the major league level and would be limited to first base and DH.
The international signing period opens on Jan. 15, at which point the Mets can make the signing of the teenager out of the Dominican Republic official.
The Mets are set to have $5.925 million in their international bonus pool this year, so there will be bigger-money deals than Vladi Miguel’s $120,000.
The addition of Vladi Miguel Guerrero to their farm system will be the Mets’ second notable brother, after they acquired Luisangel Acuña — brother of Braves star Ronald Acuña Jr. — from the Rangers this summer in a trade for Max Scherzer.
Vladi Miguel Guerrero also has another brother, Pablo, who is a 17-year-old left fielder/DH that signed with the Rangers last January.
