Ronny Mauricio appears to have avoided the worst.
A promising season for the Mets prospect likely will continue soon after an MRI exam in New York on Monday revealed a bone bruise of his left ankle.
The club said Mauricio is considered day to day.
Mauricio is believed to have originally hurt the ankle applying a tag at second base on June 4, when a baserunner dove into his leg and upended him.
Mauricio, who was thought to have a sprained ankle, sat out a couple of games with Triple-A Syracuse and returned to action last Thursday.
He most recently played Saturday before he was sent for further testing.
The 22-year-old has had a breakout season one step below the majors, posting an .884 OPS with eight home runs and nine steals in 60 games.
A natural shortstop, Mauricio has begun learning other positions — spots not blocked by Francisco Lindor — to open up additional avenues to Queens.
Mauricio has played second base for the past several weeks, and was expected to see time in left field before suffering the ankle injury.
