NextImg:Mets calling up Gary Sanchez with Francisco Alvarez ‘dinged up’

Gary Sanchez is back in the big leagues.

The Mets called up the 30-year-old ex-Yankee catcher from Triple-A Syracuse Thursday evening, The Post’s Jon Heyman reported.

The Mets signed Sanchez on May 9 after he requested his release from his minor league deal with the Giants.

It’s unclear what the Mets’ corresponding move is.

Sanchez started with Triple-A Syracuse and got off to a hot start, slashing .318/.531/.546 with a 1.077 OPS, one home run and five RBIs in seven games played.

If the Mets did not make the move by Friday, Sanchez would have been able to request his release, forcing the Mets to either add him to the MLB roster or grant the request.

Francisco Alvarez has taken over starting catching duties, but he missed the Mets’ 3-2 win over the Rays on Thursday after manager Buck Showalter said he was “dinged up.”

The Mets also currently have Michael Perez on the roster, who has served as the backup since Tomas Nido hit the injured list with dry eye syndrome.

Omar Narvaez remains on the injured list with a calf injury as well.

Sanchez most recently played in the majors with the Twins last season, but he struggled after being traded by the Yankees prior to the season.

He played the first seven years of his career with the Yankees before they shipped him to Minnesota along with Gio Urshela in exchange for Josh Donaldson, Isaiah Kiner-Falefa and Ben Rortvedt.
