Mark Vientos has returned to Citi Field.
The designated hitter and infielder was added to the Mets roster on Saturday ahead of their game against the Cardinals, but no countermove has been made yet.
“Not yet,” Vientos told reporters when asked if he knew what his role would be with the Mets, who are 13-12 and third in the NL East. “They haven’t said anything yet. Whatever they want me to do, I’m here for it.”
The Mets sent Vientos to Triple-A Syracuse at the start of the season just three days after they signed J.D. Martinez to a one-year, $12 million contract.
“As we looked at the roster construction, some of the matchups early in the season, we just thought this made the right sense both for [Vientos] from a playing-time perspective and our team at the major league level,” president of baseball operations David Stearns said at the time of the move.
Last season, Vientos had a .211 batting average and .620 OPS along with nine home runs and 22 RBIs across 65 game appearances with the Mets.
