The Mets and Yankees have completed a rare crosstown deal.
The Mets acquired catcher Luis Torrens from the Yankees and designated veteran catcher Omar Narvaez for assignment, The Post’s Joel Sherman confirmed.
Torrens, 28, is hitting .279 with five home runs and a .807 OPS for triple-A Scranton/Wikes-Barre this season.
He has played in 269 career MLB games for the Padres, Mariners and Cubs since first getting called up by San Diego in 2017.
The Mets sent $100,000 to the Yankees for Torrens, Sherman reported.
Torrens had an option in his contract to request his release from the Yankees were he not on the MLB roster by June 15.
Narvaez was batting a paltry .154 with a .376 OPS this season in 69 plate appearances spread across 28 games.
Narvaez, 32, was making $7 million this season as a backup catcher.
In additional moves, the Mets sent pitcher Christian Scott and third baseman Brett Baty to the minors.

In 2022, MLB.com noted that there had only been 16 times where the Yankees and Mets had completed a trade with each other since the Mets became an MLB organization in 1962.
The last time it happened, in 2022, the Yankees traded Joely Rodriguez to the Mets for Miguel Castro.
