Family members of the Maryland man beaten to death by an angry posse who wanted to fight his fiancée’s middle school-aged son have announced a candlelight vigil in his honor.
Christopher Wright, 43, died of a traumatic brain injury on Friday evening, hours after a group of as-yet unidentified suspects arrived at his Brooklyn Park home, according to police, who said Monday there were three to four adult male perpetrators.
It is unclear if any arrests have been made in the case, as authorities are remaining extremely tight-lipped about their investigation.
Wright’s fiancée Tracy Karopchinsky told WBAL-TV Tuesday he was beaten to death by three teens and two adults after a brawl with her 14-year-old son at school had spilled over and Wright was confronted at their house.
“Just looking at the damage that was done to him, that wasn’t just punching that did that. Like, there’s no way that punching did that,” the grieving woman reportedly said.
“The damage was done before the ambulance ever took him away. I mean, he’d had a seizure. It was done. There was nothing that the hospital could do.”
The Anne Arundel County Police Department did not respond to multiple inquires from The Post Wednesday about any arrests in connection with the case Wednesday, and Karopchinsky — who announced last month on social media she had become a grandmother — did not immediately answer a request for comment.
Her sister-in-law, Kristin Karopchinsky, announced Wednesday on a fundraising site for Wright’s funeral expenses that a vigil would be held at a yet-to-be disclosed location in the community on Friday night.
“These men took the life of an amazing father and life partner. He left this Earth and those who loved him way too soon. His children Tryston, Trenton, and Tevin are now without their father,” organizers wrote on the page, which had raised more than $16,000 in three days.
“I’m so sorry for your loss. No one deserves this unimaginable, senseless violence. Praying for you all,” one donor wrote.
