Jets right tackle Mekhi Becton is not at practice Friday with an illness.
Head coach Robert Saleh said Becton was home sick but would not provide any additional details.
Becton, the Jets’ first-round pick in the 2020 Draft with the No. 11 selection, has played just one game over the past two seasons, and none since Week 1 of 2021.
He suffered an avulsion fracture in his left kneecap last August, forcing him to miss the season.
Becton, 6-foot-7 and 363 pounds, appears set to take on the role of starting right tackle this season for the Jets after he survived a training camp battle that culminated in the preseason victory over the Giants.
“He’s still got work to do,” Saleh said in late August. “There’s a maintenance part of it that he’s got to stay on and he can’t get satisfied with it. He’s got to stay diligent with making sure he’s staying ahead of the chains when it comes to rehab and [regeneration] and all that. He’s doing all the right stuff. He’s got a lot of energy.
“He’s speaking the right language. He’s got a lot of positive self talk. He’s in the training room every day working on that knee making sure it’s fresh and ready to roll. He’s got to stay on it and he can’t get complacent with where he’s at now. He’s got a lot to play for. He’s gotten better every single day and he’s gotten more confident in his knee.”

The Jets play the Bills on Monday night at 8:15 p.m. to kick off the 2023 season.
