Meghan Trainor‘s lips are movin’ — and they are begging for a spot on the next season of American Idol.
The singer joined Tony Hale in the Bravo Clubhouse for Wednesday night’s (June 12) episode of Watch What Happens Live, where a virtual fan asked whether she’s in talks to replace Katy Perry on American Idol.
“I have done every interview in the world and said that is my dream job,” she told host Andy Cohen during the WWHL After Show. “And I have emailed three awesome people who work in that world, who don’t really have the full say. But I begged. I have begged for this job.”
Trainor said she hasn’t heard any updates, though she was planning to check her emails again.
“I want to drive to work American Idol and then drive home,” she explained. “I love watching superstars go from, like, they just auditioned to — I love being a part of their process. I just get way too attached. It’s my favorite show. I’ve watched it since I was a child so that’s my dream job.”
Luke Bryan, who will remain a judge alongside Lionel Richie, recently told Entertainment Tonight that he approved of Trainor taking over for Perry, whose final episode aired last month.
“I think Meghan’s always been real fun,” the country singer said. “You know, that’s kinda been her brand, to have fun. [She’s] real witty, so certainly.”
The show’s longtime host Ryan Seacrest also vouched for Trainor, telling the outlet, “She was very good. Meghan is a super talent too, and she’s got a great sense of humor. She’s fun and she’s spontaneous.”
This wouldn’t be Trainor’s first time on a singing competition show. The “All About That Bass” songstress was previously a judge on Australian Idol and The Voice UK.
While the network has yet to announce Perry’s replacement, there is one person who definitely won’t be taking over and that’s American Idol’s first-ever winner Kelly Clarkson.
“I can’t do that, only because I promised my kids. I was like, ‘I wanna be there as much as I possibly can,’” she told Entertainment Tonight. “And it would put me in L.A., and that’s why I had to quit The Voice, which I love that team. And I miss them so much.”
Watch What Happens Live airs Sunday through Thursdays at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
