NextImg:McDonald’s returns adult Happy Meals with ‘Mayor’ DJ Kerwin Frost and his McNugget Buddies

Adults are going to be lovin’ this news.

Happy Meals for the 18-and-up cohort are back at McDonald’s, complete with collectible toys that cater to patrons’ nostalgia.

The fast food giant promises a “childlike joy” that accompanies prying open the hallmark red-and-yellow Happy Meal box and unearthing a collectible toy under the rubble of rogue french fries and grease.

And, after last year’s McDonald’s x Cactus Plant Flea Market collab frenzy, it’s obvious that the eagerness doesn’t dim with age, and this year, the Golden Arches are welcoming back fans of all ages once more, said the company’s chief marketing and customer experience officer, Tariq Hassan.

“Fans told us they wanted to celebrate that quintessential childhood experience again,” he said in a statement

McDonald’s has partnered with DJ, entertainer and creative director Kerwin Frost for another rendition of the adult Happy Meal, which brings back the McNugget Buddies after 25 years and honor Frost’s Harlem roots.

For Frost, this McD’s collaboration is “a dream come true.” McDonald's

“I’ve loved McDonald’s since I was a kid. I even had my own Ronald McDonald doll that I brought to picture day at school, and it was my dream to collect all the McNugget Buddies,” Frost said.

“Now, coming up with my own special set of Buddies – each one representing different aspects of self-expression – it’s unreal, a dream come true.”

The Kerwin Frost Box features either a 10-piece Chicken McNuggets or a Big Mac, accompanied by fries, a fountain drink and one of the toys, Kerwin Frost, Don Bernice, Uptown Moe, Darla, BRRICK or Waffutu — which are inspired by Frost’s childhood.

“I hope the Kerwin Frost Box will serve as a reminder for people to hone their creativity and not be afraid to show the world who they really are,” said Frost.

The limited-edition collaboration — which launches Dec. 11 at participating McDonald’s locations while supplies last — has also partnered the New York-based non-profit Harlem Arts Alliance (HAA), and part of the proceeds made from the accompanying merchandise from the Frost collab will go towards the organization.

“McDonald’s has been in my family for three generations, and all of us remember that exciting moment of unboxing our first Happy Meal,” said PJ Fonseca, a McDonald’s franchisee who owns and operates over 20 New York City locations.

“I love that we get to bring that experience back again for our adult customers next month – this time, with a new take on the popular McNugget Buddies from the 80s and a special link to our city through an artist who grew up right here in Harlem.”
