NextImg:Mayor Adams dodges latest $300 rat violation at his Brooklyn townhouse

Call him the rat (summons) slayer.

Mayor Eric Adams’ latest rodent infestation violation at his Brooklyn townhouse was thrown out — after Hizzoner submitted footage from the day of the reported rat inspection where “no one appears” to even examine his property, city documents show.

Adams, 61, was slapped with a $300 fine on Sept. 15 after the Department of Health said that signs of rats and their burrows were discovered in front of his Bedford-Stuyvesant rental property.

“Fresh rat droppings were observed,” the violation obtained by The Post read, adding that at least two “active” rat burrows were seen near his garbage storage area and at the base of the building’s front steps.

The summons accused Adams — who declared “I hate rats” while announcing a campaign to eradicate the rodents from the Big Apple last year — of breaching NYC Health Code 151.02(a), which decrees owners’ properties “shall be free of pests,” and measures must be taken to ensure the vermin stay away.

Adams disputed the charges during an Oct. 31 hearing. In testimony delivered over the phone, the mayor said his property was rat-free, but that the critters were present in his neighbors yard — which may have accounted for the infestation inspectors reported, documents show.

Adams declared war on NYC rats last year after announcing the appointment of a “rat czar” to take point on the problem.

He also submitted security footage from Sept. 15 that was time-stamped to the inspector’s reported visit, which he said showed no sign of rat nests — let alone an inspector.

“Respondent pointed out that no one appears to be depicted inspecting or stopping at the place of offense,” the decision read, before conceding Adams had proved himself innocent and declaring the summons dismissed.

“The mayor prides himself on keeping his property clean,” a City Hall spokesperson said in a statement after the dismissal.

But the violation was only the latest Adams has faced over pests at his Brooklyn property — in total he’s faced four summons on the matter since May 2022, according to the Daily News.

He was hit with two fines in December alone — each for alleged violations similar to the September charges.

One of the December charges was thrown out, while he was forced to pay for the other along with the May ticket, totaling about $600. During those hearings, he testified that he spent about $7,000 on rat prevention.

Adams appointed Kathleen Corradi to be the city’s first “rat czar” in April, putting her at the helm of his initiative to purge NYC of the furry pests, which the mayor said had gained a foothold during the pandemic and exploded with the normalization of outdoor dining.

In October, Council Member Julie Menin said the Upper East Side had seen a significant reduction in rat populations since exterminators began pumping carbon monoxide into dens.

“We went from getting inundated with complaints to our office from residents and businesses on East 86th Street, to — we’re not getting complaints anymore,” Menin told The Post in October.
