The Rangers made two big roster decisions before Game 4 of the World Series on Tuesday night.
The team has removed both Max Scherzer and Adolis Garcia due to injuries, making them unavailable for the rest of the Fall Classic.
Left-handed reliever Brock Burke and utilityman Eziquel Duran will take their spots on the active roster.
Scherzer, who returned from a shoulder strain to pitch in the ALCS, came back for the World Series and pitched three scoreless innings in Game 3 on Wednesday night before exiting with back spasms.
Garcia appeared to injure himself in the eighth inning of the 3-1 win and left the game in the ninth with left side soreness.
On Thursday, the ALCS MVP’s injury was determined to be a moderate oblique strain, per MLB.com.
Both Garcia and Scherzer looked to get treatment for their respective injuries before the Rangers made their final decision, with Garcia trying to take batting practice before experiencing more pain.
“Adolis did everything he could today,” Rangers general manager Chris Young said before Game 4.
During the ALCS, Scherzer struggled in his Game 3 return and lasted just 2 2/3 innings during a Game 7 start before revealing he was dealing with a thumb ailment.
Scherzer was “not feeling well” on Tuesday, manager Bruce Bochy said, per the AP.
Garcia has been an important part of the Rangers’ run, racking up eight homers this postseason, which leads the entire playoff field.
His Game 1 home run in the 10th inning sent Texas off to a miraculous 6-5 win over Arizona.
