NextImg:Mavericks star Anthony Davis gets surgery for detached retina

Anthony Davis recently underwent surgery to repair a detached retina in his eye, according to a report from ESPN’s Shams Charania

The Mavericks superstar is expected to make a full recovery in time for Dallas’ training camp, Charania added.

Davis reportedly played through the injury during the regular season and the Mavericks’ two-game play-in tournament run.

The 10-time All-Star will enter his first full season with the Mavericks in the fall after being traded from the Lakers in the blockbuster Luka Doncic deal

Davis burst onto the scene in Dallas during his first game after the shocking trade, dropping 26 points, 16 rebounds, seven assists and three blocks in just 31 minutes before leaving the game with a groin injury, which took him off the court for a month and a half.

He had already been sidelined for several games with an abdominal strain before the trade and his debut with the Mavericks.

In total, Davis played nine regular-season games and both play-in games for the Mavericks before being eliminated by the Grizzlies.

The Mavericks were ravaged by injuries late last season.

Star point guard Kyrie Irving tore his ACL in early March and isn’t expected to be ready to return until late next season — if at all

Big men Daniel Gafford and Dereck Lively II also missed big chunks of the season.

In Irving’s absence, Davis is expected to take on a huge workload on both ends of the floor.

He’ll have help from the highly anticipated rookie Cooper Flagg, whom the Mavericks drafted after getting fortunate in the draft lottery and landing the No. 1 overall pick.
