Celine Song’s Materialists movie is coming to digital platforms tomorrow, which means you’ll soon be able to watch one of the most divisive movies of 2025 from the comfort of your own home.
Starring Dakota Johnson, Chris Evans, and Pedro Pascal, Materialists tells the story of a professional matchmaker (Johnson) who finds herself torn between a perfect, dreamy newcomer (Pascal) and her annoying-but-beautiful ex-boyfriend (Evans). Though the film was advertised as a light-hearted, romantic comedy follow up to Song’s 2023 heartbreaking, Oscar-nominated romance, Past Lives, many were disappointed by the lack of comedy in the film. But others found it to be a touching, grounded romance all the same.

Beginning on Tuesday, July 22 at 12 a.m. Eastern Time (which is also 9 p.m. Pacific Time on Monday, July 21) you will be able to buy a digital copy of Materialists on platforms like Amazon Prime, Fandango At Home, Apple TV, and more. The price may vary depending on which platform you use to buy the film, but on Amazon, the film cost $24.99 to pre-order a digital copy. Materialists will not yet be available to rent online.
Materialists is not currently available to stream on any subscription-based services, but the film will eventually be coming to streaming, on HBO Max, thanks to the 2023 deal between A24 and Warner Bros. Discovery, which brings A24’s previous and upcoming theatrical releases to the streaming service HBO Max.

The Materialists movie streaming release date on HBO Max has not yet been announced, but we can make an educated guess as to when you can expect to see Materialists on HBO Max.
The A24 deal is a “Pay-1 deal,” which means A24 movies will start streaming on HBO Max in the “Pay 1 window,” meaning that HBO Max will be the first “TV channel” to pay for the rights to Friendship, after the film has been released on digital and home media. One recent A24 title, Opus, began streaming on Max on July 11, about four months after its release in theaters, and about three months after its release on digital.
If Materialists follows a similar release strategy, you might see Materialists streaming on Max in about four months, around mid-October 2025.
