M*A*S*H star Judy Farrell has died at age 84.
According to TMZ, Farrell died at a hospital on Sunday (Apr. 3). She suffered from a stroke nine days prior to her death. The stroke left her unable to speak; however, she was conscious.
Farrell starred in eight episodes of M*A*S*H as Nurse Able. The hit television series aired from 1972 to 1983. The actor also appeared in the 1982 Fame television series and episodes of Quincy M.E., Medical Center, and The Partridge Family.
Farrell made her acting debut in the 1969 television series Judd for the Defense, starring in two episodes as the titular character’s secretary.
Farrell performed the musical number “They Say that in the Army” while appearing in M*A*S*H. Her first husband, Mike Farrell, starred as Captain B.J. Hunnicutt in seasons four through eleven of the series.
In 2018, Farrell was asked by The Hollywood Reporter to recall her favorite memory from starring in war comedy-drama series. She said, “I did an episode where Hawkeye goes to fix a gas stove in the nurse’s tent and it blows up, making him temporarily blind. Alan decided to make it so he really couldn’t see.”
She joked, “I ended up being the nurse who led him around, except I was always bumping him into stuff because I didn’t know how to lead a blind person around. At one point, Alan turned to me and said, ‘Do your children trust you?’”
Farrell is survived by her husband, Joe Bratcher, and her two children.
