Chicago Med‘s Marlyne Barrett is clocking out—for now.
According to Deadline, the actress, who debuted as ER nurse Maggie Lockwood in the very first episode of the NBC medical drama, is stepping back from the series for personal reasons. The outlet reports that Barrett’s exit, who is one of the three original Chicago Med actors still part of the show’s cast alongside S. Epatha Merkerson and Oliver Platt, may not be permanent.
DECIDER reached out to NBC for more information.
Barrett announced in 2022 that she was diagnosed with ovarian and uterine cancer. After 30 rounds of chemotherapy, Barrett is fortunately in “complete remission,” as she told People in a September 2024 interview.
Like other actors in the One Chicago universe, Barrett has also appeared on episodes of Chicago Fire and Chicago P.D. Deadline also broke the news that series alum Nick Gehlfuss, the actor behind Dr. Will Halstead, will be back as a guest star in Season 11. Plus, The Pitt star Shawn Hatosy‘s son, Cassius Hatosy, will guest star in the Season 11 premiere of Chicago Med, per TVLine.

As for news surrounding other One Chicago stars, Chicago Fire‘s Daniel Kyri teased a limited time return as Darren Ritter earlier this month after his series exit was announced in April. On Aug. 13, Kyri posted on Instagram that he had filmed his final scenes the day prior, noting how “humbled and proud” he is to have played Darren Ritter.
Seasons 1-10 of Chicago Med are streaming on Peacock. Chicago Med Season 11 premieres on Wednesday, Oct. 1 on NBC, with next-day streaming on Peacock.
