NextImg:Marlins ball boy throws Dodgers fair ball into stands in wild gaffe

It doesn’t take much to find a ball boy blunder online, and one of the Marlins’ ball boys can now find himself among them.

The ball boy sitting along the first base side of loanDepot Park on Thursday night mistakenly grabbed a fair ball hit down the line by the Dodgers’ Freddie Freeman in the top of the sixth inning, thinking it had been foul.

But in reality, it was just inside the line.

The ball boy grabbed the ball with his glove in foul territory and then heaved it into the stands as Miami right fielder Jesús Sánchez was coming over to try to grab the ball.

The ball boy didn’t seem to realize what had just happened until he was getting ready to sit back down in his chair.

As a result of the blunder, Freeman was awarded an automatic double while Mookie Betts scored.

The Miami crowd could be heard booing after the play.

Alls well that ends well, though, as the ball boy was forgiven for his blunder by Sánchez.

A video posted to X, formerly Twitter, showed the Marlins’ outfielder coming over to the ball boy later and putting his arm around him in a sign of forgiveness.

The ball boy chucked the ball into the stands.

Freddie Freeman was awarded with second base after the hit.

Some users on social media, however, were not as kind and quickly had a laugh at what had happened.

“Hearing word that the Marlins ball boy that was removed from the game today has been reassigned to the Pepito costume for the rest of the season,” X user MarlinsGBU joked.

“When you’re a Marlins ball boy but you bet on the Dodgers,” another user wrote

“Marlins ball boy is 100% getting DFA’d tonight,” a third person wrote on the social media platform.

In the end, the run meant very little as the Dodgers defeated the Marlins 10-0.
