Kelly Ripa

Mark Consuelos shed some light on his marriage proposal to Kelly Ripa — and disclosed something he would have changed if he had the chance to go back and do it all over again.

On this morning’s Live with Kelly and Mark, Consuelos brought up a survey suggesting that “half of Americans would do things differently” when it came to how they popped the question.

Ripa asked her husband-turned-co-host if he would do anything differently, to which he replied that his proposal “was kind of like Rocky’s and Adrian’s.”

“I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind marrying me so much,” he teased in a Sylvester Stallone-like voice.

Ripa agreed that “it was kind of something like that,” though she insisted “it was adorable.” Nonetheless, Consuelos confessed he “would change one thing” about his proposal, which took place in his apartment.

“The one thing I would change about the whole thing is I wish I would have called your dad,” he shared.

After Ripa claimed that her father “still talks about it to this day,” Consuelos showed remorse, though he noted that they eloped, adding, “That would have kind of thrown the whole elopement off, because I’m sure he would’ve talked us out of it.”

Ripa and Consuelos said that Consuelos’ mother was “the only one that was onboard” with their choice to elope. Nonetheless, Consuelos listed the top five things people would change about their engagement, which included location, delivery, weather, the words the partner used, and friends and family involvement. With respect to the latter, Ripa highlighted “that would feel weird.”

“If you proposed to me in front of my friends and family, that is grounds for pre-divorce,” she teased.

Ripa said that she “stand[s] by” Consuelos’ proposal, teasing that “it stuck.” As for how she would grade the proposal, she declared it an “A++,” before they high-fived.

Consuelos added, “I still wish that I called your dad.”

While Ripa clarified that her father is “over it,” Consuelos joked, “Let’s call Joe right now.”
