Socks or no socks is the debate seemingly (and literally) keeping people up at night. This morning on Live with Kelly and Mark, Mark Consuelos tackled the “big controversy” sparked by a recent Wall Street Journal article with the following headline: “If You Sleep In Your Socks, You’re A Psychopath.”

He then turned toward Kelly Ripa with a sly, knowing look on his face, as he began to point at her.

Ripa replied, “Are you implying that I sleep in socks?”

Consuelos retorted, “Sometimes you do sleep in socks,” claiming that she “sometimes” dons “big, nice fluffy socks” in bed.

However, Ripa countered, “Only when it’s 11 degrees in our bedroom!”

She continued, “Sometimes when I put that emulsifying foot cream on, and they give you the socks to lock in the moisture, I will leave the socks on. But, halfway through the night, I kick them off. So I’m only a half a psychopath!”

Consuelos turned it over to the Live studio audience, asking who “sleeps with their socks on,” which received some mixed feedback.

“If I fall asleep with socks on on accident, it wakes me up,” he explained. “I don’t get a good night’s rest.”

Consuelos eventually proceeded to share that the “sleep specialist” that they have previously welcomed on the show, Dr. Breus, is cited in the WSJ article as supporting socks-on sleepers.

“Chilly feet can raise the temperature by sending more blood, and heat to the core areas,” Consuelos read aloud. “So that’s bad for sleep. So if you warm your feet, it actually gives you better sleep.”

Ripa concluded, “So there’s a lot of well-rested psychopaths out there!”
