The early bird gets the (ear)worm — or however the saying goes.

Kelly Ripa enlightened viewers on Live with Kelly and Mark on Monday about “catching an earworm,” reading that it is “an involuntary muscle imagery.”

“So we encounter sounds all the time,” she said, “but music gets stuck in our brains the most because we hear catchy words and sounds that pop into our head.”

Mark Consuelos noted that there are “a few commercials” that he has fallen victim to in terms of being earwormed.

“I guess it’s local, I’m not sure if it’s local or not, and it’s for a good cause, so I should probably be more empathetic about it, but it’s the “1-8(77)-Kars4Kids,” he shared. “I want to jump out of my car, but it just won’t stop.”

He also cited Liberty Mutual’s “Liberty, Liberty, Liberty” jingle.

“I really, I’m like, I can’t,” he added.

Live EP Michael Gelman asked whether there are any “pop songs” that Ripa and Consuelos experience earworms with. As they began to ponder, Ripa claimed there are “so many,” though she settled on one in particular.

“The song ‘Everything in Its Right Place’ by Radiohead has earwormed me fore 25 years,” she teased. “

Consuelos replied, “Yeah, you like that song more than most.”

Ripa explained that she will be “walk[ing] down the street” and suddenly break out into the 2000 song.

“Google it today, and you’ll be like, ‘Oh, my God, now it’s stuck in my head for 25 years,'” she quipped.

Ripa also mentioned the Scissor Sisters’ “Take Your Mama” as a song that has been “stuck in [her] head for 20 years.”

“Like there are certain songs that are stuck in my head forever,” she teased.

Consuelos agreed, “That’s a great song.”
