Mario Cantone channeled the sass of his Sex and the City character when he appeared on Thursday night’s (June 5) episode of Watch What Happens Live.

In the beginning of the episode, host Andy Cohen asked the actor a series of juicy questions about And Just Like That…, which just returned to HBO Max for a third season.

Cantone said he was “very good” at keeping the secret that John Corbett (a.k.a. Carrie Bradshaw’s former flame Aidan) would be returning for the spinoff’s second season. However, he “didn’t know” Kim Cattrall would be making a cameo as the iconic Samantha Jones until after the scene was already filmed.

Unfortunately, Cantone didn’t have any hope that Cattrall would reprise her beloved role again in the future, telling Cohen, “I don’t think that’s gonna happen.”

When the Bravo icon wondered if he still kept in touch with Cattrall, Cantone reminded him that he’s asked that question before.

“No, I don’t. You asked me this last time. I haven’t seen her in, like, 11 years,” Cantone said, to which Cohen replied, “Oh, OK. Sorry to re-ask the question.”

Cantone then fired back, “That’s OK. You don’t remember because your brain is fried!”

Cattrall, who once said she’d never return to the franchise after starring in all six seasons and two spinoff movies, ultimately made a cameo in And Just Like That… Season 2. Her surprise appearance came in the form of a phone call between Samantha and Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker). Showrunner Michael Patrick King told The Hollywood Reporter in a June 2023 interview that “some magic happened behind the scenes” to bring her back.

The actress, for her part, told The View her one condition for a cameo when she appeared on the hit daytime talk show in June 2023.

“It’s very interesting to get a call from the head of HBO saying, ‘What can we do?’ And I went, ‘Hmm… Let me get creative,’” Cattrall said. “One of those things was to get [Sex and the City’s costume designer] Pat Field back because I just thought that if I’m going to come back I gotta come back with that Samantha style, I gotta push it, and we did.”

Watch What Happens Live airs Sunday through Thursday at 10 p.m. ET on Bravo. New episodes are available to stream the next day on Peacock.
