An 18-leg, $50 college basketball parlay to win $202,723.41 at DraftKings was at the precipice of victory before the jaws of defeat grabbed ahold of it.
Darren Rovell reported that after 16 winning legs, the bettor was given a cash-out option worth $59,110.38.
Seeking more value for the bet – which had a true value of $70,882 according to Wager Wire’s value calculator – the bettor decided to attempt to sell the wager for its true value.
Sure enough, a taker came along, offering the $70,000 that had been requested.
Despite being offered the fair value that he sought in the lead-up to Baylor vs. Clemson on Sunday, the bettor decided to let it ride on Baylor moneyline and UConn against the spread.
The Baylor Bears, though, were the only favorite of the weekend to lose, as the Clemson Tigers pulled off the upset as +160 underdogs.
In terms of odds, the bet had a roughly 35 percent chance of winning prior to the start of Baylor-Clemson and UConn-Northwestern.
UConn, whose game started roughly 90 minutes after Baylor-Clemson began at 7:45 p.m. ET, covered easily against Northwestern in a 75-58 win.
Baylor was mostly a disaster from the opening tip, being down double digits multiple times throughout the first and second halves.
Had the bettor been able to hedge, there was an opportunity late in the second half as Baylor furiously rallied. Down 61-48, Baylor rallied to cut the deficit to 66-64 with 37 seconds remaining and two free throws on tap.

Ja’Kobe Walter stepped to the line as a career 79.2 percent free throw shooter and had a chance to tie the game but he came up empty in the big spot, while 59.6 percent free-throw shooter RJ Godrey followed up with a perfect four-for-four to ice the game for the Tigers.
It was 15-1 for the favorites in the Round of 32, but the only one that mattered was the Bears for this bettor.
Perhaps the lesson here is: If you get what you ask for, take it.
