NextImg:Managerial seats getting hotter all around MLB

Only one more managerial situation is basically certain to change, and that is the unique case of 2023 Manager of the Year Skip Schumaker and the Marlins, who agreed to drop the 2025 team option on Schumaker’s deal at his request. That’ll be the Marlins’ loss.

Scott Servais’ ouster in Seattle on Thursday made it two managers fired so far, following the White Sox and Pedro Grifol, and it’ll still be a surprise if everyone else besides Schumaker stays. Managing isn’t exactly known for job security.

Here are some interesting scenarios (and a few thoughts on potential replacements):

He’ll find a better opportunity elsewhere, if not immediately, then soon.

Sizemore is likely to stay in some role as he’s beloved by players, but the team plans to go outside. A.J. Pierzynski has been mentioned as a candidate. Jim Thome would be great but he’s busy with his son’s high school career. Rangers bench coach Will Venable is a more likely candidate.

It feels like honchos Mark Shapiro and Ross Atkins will survive despite the 2024 disaster. If a fall guy is sought, Schneider may be it, especially after their big disagreement following the Jose Berrios early playoff exit

The general consensus is he needs to win a playoff round, but his bosses do love him

The pressure seems real after big winter buys, but Roberts is outstanding and they again have MLB’s best record.

It’s an average team playing average baseball, an improvement. Are front office changes also possible? Two great potential manager replacements: Cardinals legend Yadier Molina and Schumaker.

Beloved by bosses, which explains regular extensions. Likely staying again.

They’re underachieving, but he, too, is a favorite of higher-ups.

They’ve said there won’t be any word until after the year, but it’s believed he has tenure unless he prefers a lesser role.

The best October manager ever certainly isn’t in trouble. He has a year to go and didn’t seem to love semi-retirement, but with GM Chris Young still not extended after months of talks, it’s worth wondering.

He’s doing very well to stay in a playoff spot, but folks see him walking away after his contract expires next year.
