Ryan Koss, the man charged with killing actor Treat Williams on his motorcycle in June, pleaded not guilty Monday (Sept. 25), Deadline reports.

The 35-year-old from Vermont “attempted to turn left into a parking lot” and hit Williams — who was riding his motorcycle — with his Honda SUV, causing “severe trauma and blood loss,” per an Aug. 1 Vermont State Police report.

Koss, the managing creative director at the Dorset Theater Festival, had worked with Williams on several productions, and “considered him a friend.”

“I know his family feels his sudden loss even more deeply than I do, and I offer my sincerest condolences to them,” he said in an Aug. 4 statement.

However, Koss had also denied the charges at the time that this statement was released, expressing that he was “confident the facts will show [he] obeyed all relevant traffic laws, and the State’s charges are unwarranted.”

According to The Associated Press, Koss could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison if found guilty of gross negligent charges.

NBC News 5 reported that Koss was “released on conditions,” and will return to court in Bennington, Vermont for another hearing in the spring.

Williams’ death was confirmed by his manager Barry McPherson to People on the day of his passing.

“He was killed this afternoon,” he told the outlet on June 12. “He was making a left or a right [and] a car cut him off. I’m just devastated. He was the nicest guy. He was so talented.”
