Apparently, it was important enough to break etiquette at Wimbledon.
During Madison Keys’ round of 16 match against Italian Jasmine Paolini, the ESPN broadcast found to the American’s coach and fiancé, Bjorn Fratangelo, picking his nose and flicking his findings.
The camera stayed on Fratangelo for 16 seconds before ESPN analyst Rennae Stubbs said: “Get the camera off him while he’s picking his nose!”
Fans quickly chimed in on X.
“Goodness sakes @BjornFratangelo picking your nose in the Wimbledon player’s box for the whole world to see,” a user wrote. “Was it really THAT important? Disgusting. #wimbledon.”
“Are we not human? If we pick, do we not bleed?! I am not an animal!!!” – Bjorn Fratangelo,” another posted.
No. 12 Keys fell in the first set but rallied to win a tiebreaker in the second over No. 7 Paolini.
She won six out of her eight break point opportunities, but Keys couldn’t hang on in the third set due to a mid-match injury.
Keys, 29, took a medical break during the set to address the issue, but it appeared she suffered an injury in her left leg that didn’t allow her to move properly, which eventually forced her to retire from the fourth round match.
She left the court in tears, losing to Paolini, 3-6, 7(6)-6, 5-5, as the 28-year-old Italian will move on to the quarterfinals — the furthest she’s gone at Wimbledon.
Paolini also made it to the finals of the French Open this year, losing to No. 1 Iga Swiatek, who had an early Wimbledon exit Saturday.
Keys made it to the quarterfinals of Wimbledon last year and went on to make a semifinal appearance at the U.S. Open over a month later.
