The maniac who slashed an 82-year-old Upper West Side doorman in the head last year was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison for the unprovoked attack, prosecutors said.

Deashe Calhoun, 22, who pleaded guilty to the bloody assault in July, will also have three years post-release supervision as part of his sentencing at Manhattan Criminal Court.

Calhoun, who goes by “he/him” pronouns, randomly attacked Hubert Meulens at Stone Street and Broadway with a machete on the morning of Sept. 7, 2022 – leaving the doorman with a fractured skull and 11 stitches.

Calhoun also pumped bear spray in Meulens’ eyes after the slashing, then continued walking to renew his MetroCard at MTA headquarters, cops said.

At the time of the attack, Calhoun was free despite having seven prior arrests, several of which involved a deadly weapon or knives, according to police sources.

Calhoun was released just days earlier following an Aug. 25 menacing arrest, where he followed a 31-year-old man and displayed a machete but didn’t use it, sources said.

One police source labeled Calhoun a “maniac” who was known to carry around sharp instruments including machetes.

Meulens, an immigrant from Curacao and former Pace University-educated accountant, was working at the time to care for his wife, a retired nurse ailing from cancer, diabetes and dementia, according to his son, Peter Marcel.

Marcel said that he felt his dad was a “soft target” for crime last year.

“I tell him every night, be careful on the trains and in the street,” Marcel said.

“There are a lot of zombies on the trains, who are very unpredictable and irrational. It’s not being dealt with. Unfortunately, my fears have come true.”

Meulens said he was “not angry” about the attack but he was “surprised” Calhoun wasn’t in prison at the time.

Calhoun was ordered held on $500,000 bail after his arraignment — a relief to Meulens.

“[He] needs to be away from society for a long time,” Meulens told The Post from his hospital bed on Sept. 8, 2022.

Meulens did not respond to phone calls left by The Post Thursday.

Calhoun’s attorney, Julie Fry, did not immediately return a request for comment.
