NextImg:Luis Guillorme exits game with apparent leg injury in latest Mets concern

Luis Guillorme exited in the sixth inning of the Mets’ game against the Red Sox on Saturday, appearing to favor his leg as the second baseman limped off the field.

With one out in the frame, Guillorme bobbled a grounder hit by Rafael Devers, which turned into an infield single as the ball bounced onto the grass.

Then, after the play, Guillorme sat on the ground as a member of the training staff and Mets manager Buck Showalter examined him.

D.J. Stewart entered the game for Guillorme, playing right field while Mark Canha shifted to left field and Jeff McNeil moved to second base.

After Masataka Yoshida walked in the at-bat following Guillorme’s injury, Grant Hartwig forced a Justin Turner groundout to end the frame.

The apparent injury occurred less than two innings after the Mets and Red Sox resumed their suspended game, which was paused until Saturday afternoon due to torrential rain that poured down — and flooded, in some areas — Fenway Park the night before.

It’s also the latest injury concern for the Mets, with outfielder Tommy Pham dealing with a groin injury and outfielder Starling Marte on the 10-day injured list due to migraines.

Prior to the game’s suspension, Brandon Nimmo and Daniel Vogelbach launched two-run homers to give the Mets a 4-3, handing the Mets the lead after starting pitcher Kodai Senga allowed three runs across the first three frames.

And after the game resumed, Guillorme had already flashed the defensive instincts that made him a valuable reserve infielder, even as the Mets’ starters — Francisco Lindor at shortstop, Jeff McNeil at second — have already been solidified.

Earlier in the game, shortly after it resumed, Guillorme collected a sharp grounder from Boston’s Alex Verdugo with his backhand to prevent a baserunner from reaching against Hartwig.

Guillorme also dove to his left and snagged a grounder from Jalen Durran in the next inning, twisting toward first baseman Pete Alonso and making the throw from his knees.

Through 49 games this season, Guillorme has hit .240 with a .656 OPS, and in the Mets’ victory over the Dodgers on Sunday, he hit an RBI double — after failing twice to bunt — to drive in the game-winning run.
