However chaotic Love Is Blind Season 5 has been, and it has definitely been chaotic, that chaos will be contained to the season itself — because Netflix will not try to make the Season 5 reunion a live event, not after the internet-breaking fiasco that was Love Is Blind’s “live” Season 4 reunion. Instead, the Love Is Blind Season 5 reunion will premiere on Netflix on Sunday, October 15 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT. The reunion will, of course, be hosted by Nick Lachey and Vanessa Lachey.
And before you make your jokes about the cluster of a broadcast, Netflix has you beat. In the trailer announcing the reunion special, Love Is Blind pokes fun at the brouhaha that left every LIB fan angrily refreshing a browser window for a solid 90 minutes.
Still, there is something unprecedented about how Netflix is handling this premiere. While it’s not live, it is being released in primetime as opposed to the usual 3 a.m. ET release for new episodes. This is kind of the best of both worlds. The audience will get to watch along together, if they sync up their viewing, at a reasonable hour — and none of us will have to endure the catastrophe of a live broadcast that is anything but live.
This feels like the safest bet for Netflix considering just how completely… unhinged is a word… Love Is Blind Season 5 has been so far. Nothing about the Houston-set season has followed the show’s pretty set-in-stone tradition, from two cast members having dated prior to the pods to the show completely cutting out two couples from the rest of the season. One of those couples actually made it to the altar, but then had their story cut for unknown reasons. The other didn’t make it past the vacation in Mexico, and we only know about them because one of the contestants is suing the production company claiming she was sexually assaulted by her pod fiancé during production.
Whether or not any of the unaired drama will make it into the reunion remains to be seen, as Love Is Blind has never mentioned the unaired engagements during previous reunions. Still, there’s plenty of drama to get into — like whether or not Lydia truly stalked Uche all the way to the Love Is Blind set. And before you get worried that the reunion will only be between the two couples that made it to the altar on-air, Netflix’s announcement confirms that even the broken-up couples will be included in the reunion. Does this mean we’ll get to see Stacy mean girl the hell out of Johnie again, this time in front of Vanessa and Nick Lachey? Maybe!
The not-at-all live Love Is Blind Season 5 reunion will premiere on Sunday, October 15 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT.
