Love is Blind Season 5 contestant Renee Poche is taking legal action against Netflix and Delirium TV, the show’s production company. In the lawsuit obtained by TMZ, she alleges that she was forced by producers to get engaged to an abusive man who was addicted to drugs and alcohol — and then charged $4 million for allegedly breaking her non-disclosure agreement by speaking out about her less-than-stellar experience on the reality show.
Poche, a veterinarian from Texas, joined Love is Blind Season 5 in 2022, where she was paired with Carter Wall, who she claims was broke, jobless, homeless, violent (on and off-camera) and addicted to amphetamines and alcohol.
While the Poche and Wall initially hit it off on the show — which follows a group of singles who must form romantic connections and get engaged before ever meeting each other face-to-face — the latter says she soon became terrified to spend time with him.
Despite this, she alleges that producers — who should’ve known about his “troubling issues” and “mental instability” due to their rigorous background checks — threatened to take legal action if she did not commit to an engagement. The ex-reality star even claims she was advised by producers to make sure Wall had no access to weapons because they were concerned he might hurt her or himself.
Once the show was over, Poche was told her storyline would not air as Wall threatened to take his own life if it did. She ultimately ended their engagement and decided to speak out about her negative experience publicly, which Delirium claims was a violation of her NDA. Now, the company is seeking $4 million, while Poche was only paid a mere $8,000 for her appearance on the show.
“My experience on Love is Blind was traumatic,” she told Variety. “I felt like a prisoner and had no support when I let Delirium know that I didn’t feel safe. I tried to deal with these emotions over time and eventually felt like I needed to share what had happened. I felt it was only right to let others know the truth of what all of the castmates had to endure.”

Poche ultimately decided to file a suit against Netflix and Delirium as she hopes to nullify the contract, which she calls “illegal, invalid and unenforceable,” per TMZ. She is also seeking damages from both companies.
“I believe Delirium is trying to silence the abuse that occurs behind the cameras and ruin me for telling the truth,” she said, per Variety.
Poche isn’t the only Season 5 contestant going after the production company. According to Variety, Tran Dang is also suing Delirium TV and Kinetic Content for sexual assault, false imprisonment and negligence.
Decider has reached out to Netflix for comment, but did not hear back by the time of publication.
