Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos escaped rainy New York City last weekend to visit their son at the University of Michigan’s homecoming game. While there, one lucky family who got to share a suite with them almost got a little too lucky.
On this morning’s episode of Live with Kelly and Mark, the married couple reflected on their weekend in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and how they were able to score some box seats.
“Every year, we go to this homecoming game and every year we sit outside and freeze to death,” Ripa said. “I’m talking Canada Goose coat. I’m talking I wear a hot suit under my clothes. Do you know what a hot suit is? It’s an insulated suit that allegedly keeps you warmer than your own body temperature times 1,000. I am outside freezing to death.”
This year, however, the Live co-hosts were approached about auctioning off the opportunity for a family to sit with them at the football game.
“I was like, ‘Yes, because I won’t freeze. Yes, it’s for a good cause. And I will finally be warm. And there’s a bathroom. Yes! Sign me up!'” Ripa recalled. “We walked in there and I go, ‘Of course. It’s 80 degrees and we’re inside when you just want to be outside in the sunshine!’ It was so nice and how lovely were the people that bid on the prize? They were so kind.”
Ripa then joked that she offered a tad more than the opportunity to share a suite at the auction.
“I promised at this auction — I was like, ‘Not only do you get to sit in the suite, but you get to sit on my husband’s lap,'” she said, to which Consuelos quipped, “And her husband sat on my lap. I stroked his [head]. I said, ‘Move your head, I’m watching the game.'”
Aside from watching the University of Michigan walk away with the victory, the married couple also got to reunite with Mason Paris, the college wrestling champion who “rag-dolled” Consuelos on a previous episode of Live.
“He got his National Championship — because he won the National Championship last year. Gosh, that’s a big ring,” Consuelos said, while Ripa added, “It’s like a belt for me. I could’ve slid into it.”
