Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos rang in a national holiday on this morning’s Live with Kelly and Mark.

Just minutes into Tuesday’s episode, Ripa honored “National Grouch Day,” prompting an enthusiastic “Yes!” from her husband and co-host, who was seated alongside her.

“Are you a grouch?” Consuelos asked, pointing toward someone in the audience. “I’m a grouch.”

“A holiday we can get behind,” Ripa added. “You are a grouch! You are such a grouch! Oh my gosh, you’re the grouchiest!”

Consuelos asked what it is you should do to celebrate, and clarified that he “do[es]n’t complain frequently and constantly.”

Ripa retorted, “But you’re habitually irritable.”

Consuelos admitted he is, though he claimed “that’s just being a dad.”

Ripa continued, “There’s nothing that we really do to celebrate. I think you just complain with unfettered reckless abandon. And then you can sigh at me in that passive-aggressive way that you do.”

Consuelos was reminded of “the Art Moore sigh,” referring to the show’s former executive in charge of production. After playing a recording of Moore’s signature sigh, he and Ripa parsed through a list of famous grouches, such as Sesame Street‘s Oscar the Grouch, plus Archie Bunker and the Grinch. However, Consuelos mentioned one special grouch that did not make the list.

“I love talking to your dad on the phone,” he quipped to Ripa, who seemingly agreed.

“Oh, speaking of grouch,” she teased. “By the way, Joe Ripa not being mentioned as the premier grouch…”

Consuelos recalled, “I called him and I said, ‘Hey, the Eagles won.’ He goes, ‘They stink.’ We were at a Yankees game and they won, and he goes, ‘They stink.'”

Ripa explained, “Win or lose, they stink. It doesn’t matter. Whoever’s playing stinks, and their opponent stinks worse, and together they stink. If you’re celebrating, it stinks. And if they’ve lost, and you’re crushed, it stinks.”

Consuelos reiterated, “Yeah, I love talking to him.”
