NextImg:Lions vs. Chiefs prediction: ‘Sunday Night Football’ picks, odds, best bets

One of Patrick Mahomes’ favorite pass targets will be back on the field Sunday night against the Lions in Kansas City in what could be a Super Bowl preview.

Xavier Worthy, who has played just two games since suffering a shoulder injury during Week 1, and is now dealing with an ankle issue, is expected to play after logging a full practice Friday.

When he’s been in the lineup, Worthy’s quarterback has been peppering him with looks.

In two full games, Worthy has received 17 targets, bringing in 11 passes for 125 yards.

It’s an extension of late last season, Worthy’s rookie year, when he received 50 targets over his last six regular season games and another 21 during the Chiefs’ three-game playoff run.

Detroit’s secondary comes into this game banged up, Mahomes and Worthy will absolutely be looking to take advantage of the matchup.

Cornerbacks D.J. Reed, Terrion Arnold, and Khalil Dorsey are all out with various injuries.

Safeties Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph are expected to play, but are currently listed as questionable with an ankle and knee injury, respectively.

The Lions’ defense has been solid as a whole this season, but they’ve been much better against the run, holding opponents to just four yards a carry, the ninth-best mark in the league.

And don’t forget — Rashee Rice is still suspended, leaving Worthy as by far the top receiver for Mahomes to throw to.

Facing a hobbled pass protection and tough rush defense, look for Worthy to have another big game for the Chiefs.
