It’s the fans like Benjamin that truly know why the Lions’ win over the Rams meant so much to its fan base.

In the final seconds of the Lions’ 24-23 win over the Rams in the wild card round Sunday night, the cameras showed 89-year-old Lions fan Benjamin Capp.

Capp has held Lions season tickets since the 1950s.

“Benjamin Cap, Grosse Pointe, Michigan, Lions season ticket holder 66 years, 89 years old, this will be one of the most memorable nights in Detroit football for that 89-year-old and the 62,000 others here,” NBC announcer Mike Tirico said as the cameras showed Capp in a Lions jacket during the final minute of the game.

The NFL featured Capp in a Tik Tok video it captioned “loyalty runs deep,” with a caption during the clip stating: “Can’t call Benjamin a bandwagon fan.”

It had indeed been a long time for Capp and the others since the Lions had last won a home playoff game — or any playoff game — in 1992, when they knocked off the Cowboys, 38-6.

Depending on whether Capp started his season tickets during the 1957 or 1958 seasons, it’s possible he had season tickets when the Lions won the NFL title in 1957 — prior to the Super Bowl era.

In the Super Bowl era, the Lions have now hosted three home playoff games and entered Sunday with a 1-1 mark.

Overall, the Lions entered the wild card matchup 1-12 in the postseason in the Super Bowl era and losers of nine straight games.

They ended that streak behind a strong game from Jared Goff, who threw for 277 yards and one touchdown in a duel with ex-Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford.

After Sean McVay punted late in the game — a decision he later regretted — the Lions ran out the clock to advance to a divisional round matchup against either the Buccaneers or Eagles.

You can count on Capp being in attendance for that one next Sunday.
