NextImg:Liberace’s ‘secret’ West Hollywood home seeks a $3.59M flip

Despite his lavish displays of success and an overall flamboyant persona, even Liberace needed time away from the realities of Hollywood — and now, his onetime hideout can be yours.

In West Hollywood, Liberace’s “secret” home — at 8732 Shoreham Dr. — has listed for $3.59 million, according to a release from its listing brokerage.

That’s higher than the $2.88 million the 2,360-square-foot residence asked in the spring of 2022. Property records show the home subsequently sold in August 2022 for $2.6 million — and, when comparing last year’s listing photos to those of now, it’s evident the dwelling underwent a renovation in the months since.

It’s all located in The Shoreham, a 1937-built development with 15 apartments and townhouses whose former residents also include Olivia de Havilland, her sister Joan Fontaine — specifically, the sister with whom de Havilland famously feuded — and Marlene Dietrich. The Shoreham owes its origins to MGM Studios, which built it to house talent above the Sunset Strip.

The pianist was known for his flamboyance, but he sought privacy in the home.

With three bedrooms — two of which are primary suites — three full bathrooms and a powder room, this offering also includes an updated kitchen with new appliances and a laundry room with floor-to-ceiling storage.

Images show an original fireplace, columns, handsome herringbone floors and even space for a home gym. Up a stairwell is a private 2,000-plus-square-foot roof terrace with space for dining, lounging and looking out to views of the Los Angeles skyline. There’s also an outdoor television.

Liberace, a lifelong performer and pianist, was also known for his screen presence — hosting “The Liberace Show” in the 1950s and 1960s, and even appearing in films such as “Sincerely Yours.”

Liberace died at age 67 in 1987 from AIDS complications — several weeks after being medically treated for what his staff called “the effects of a watermelon diet.” He passed away in his Palm Springs home.

Chris Laib and Michael Remacle of Sotheby’s International Realty have the listing.
