Mayoral front-runner Zohran Mamdani and his lefty comrades are standing by state Attorney General Letitia James amid her indictment woes.
The Queens socialist fiercely defended James against the Trump administration during a love-filled news conference in Manhattan Friday, arguing the mortgage fraud case against her is politically motivated vengeance.
“This is a blatant miscarriage of justice. This is a shameless act of political retribution,” Mamdani seethed about the federal charges of bank fraud and making a false statement to a financial institution unveiled Thursday against James.
“And instead of prosecuting Tish James for doing her job, Donald Trump should be doing his.”
James won a civil judgment against the president and Trump Organization last year for inflating the value of his real estate empire, leading to $355 million in penalties that were ultimately thrown out after an appeal and Trump’s white-hot ire.
The Trump-hating, James-loving rally also served as the latest chapter in a budding political romance between Mamdani and the attorney general.
The pair have bonded as unsparing critics of Trump and targets of his wrath.
James had supported City Council Speaker Adrienne Adams in the Democratic mayoral primary, but went “all in” on Mamdani after his stunning victory in June.
Behind-the-scenes, James spoke with Gov. Kathy Hochul several times before her shock endorsement of Mamdani last month, the New York Times first reported.
She also guided Mamdani through the aftermath of July’s mass shooting in Midtown, in which an NYPD officer was among those killed, The Times reported.
Adams, alongside a slew of other local lefty Dems, joined the James-supporting event organized by Mamdani — and even took shots at the democratic socialist’s mayoral opponent, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
“(James) saw through you in the beginning and she saw through you in the end,” Adams said about Cuomo.
“And at the end of both spectrums, Donald Trump is still pulling the strings in your vocal chords.”
Cuomo has no love for James, who launched 2021 sexual harassment investigation that ultimately led to his resignation as governor.
While other Dems blasted the indictment against James, Cuomo initially offered only a lukewarm statement on X that didn’t mention her by name.
Cuomo clarified his remarks in a follow-up statement to The Post on Friday.
“The weaponization and politicization of the justice system is wrong no matter which side you are on— period. It is wrong when Trump’s DOJ does it or when a Democrat does it, and it must be universally condemned,” Cuomo said.
“I know firsthand as the White House weaponized the DOJ against me when I was governor of New York and three other democratic states during the height of COVID and it’s wrong that it appears to be happening with AG James and Former FBI Director Comey — it is part of why people have lost faith in the Justice system, the cornerstone of our democracy,” he said.
