Shedeur Sanders’ debut drew headlines even before he took his first snap.
Due to injuries to fellow quarterbacks Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel, Deion Sanders’ son was given the start for the Browns.
There were talking heads, like Stephen A. Smith, who felt he was being set up to fail, because he hadn’t been receiving as many practice reps as others.
But Sanders looked up to the job, completing 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns in a 30-10 win over the Panthers. He also ran for 19 yards on four carries.
Afterward, social media was ablaze crediting the fifth-round pick for his performance.
That included LeBron James, his father and former NFL players Dez Bryant and Jonathan Stewart.
LeBron wrote: “That young looking good out there! @ShedeurSanders Keep going UP!!! HEAD down on the grind and HEAD high to the most high ”
Said Bryant, the former Cowboys receiver: “SANDERS BELONG I LIKE HIS AURA!”
It was an impressive outing.
Now, Sanders has to back up in practice this week as he looks to work his way up the depth chart.
