Will they bring the party back to Los Angeles?
Draymond Green and LeBron James were seen vacationing together in France on Monday on the same day Green declined his $27.6 million player option with Golden State.
The 33-year-old is an unrestricted free agent and the Lakers are a plausible next landing spot, if he decides not to return to the Warriors.
The power forward was drafted 35th overall by the Warriors in 2012 and has racked up four championships while part of the squad’s championship core with Steph Curry and Klay Thompson.
Now, Golden State and newly appointed general manager Mike Dunleavy Jr. are at a crossroads.
Thompson is in the final year of his contract and will hit free agency in 2024 looking for a big paycheck.
Green may already be on his way out when the market opens on June 30.
Dunleavy said he has every intention of working things out with Green, ESPN.com reported.
“We really want Draymond back,” Dunleavy said.
The GM also said he “feels confident we can navigate it” and that the Warriors front office has the ability to get a deal inked.
While the Warriors’ desires are clear, Green is no doubt going to explore his options.
James, 38, and Green have been off-court friends for years and are both represented by agent Rich Paul of Klutch Sports Group.
The two, along with Lakers’ center Anthony Davis, are also all investors in the tequila brand Lobos 1707.
The four-time All-Star has publicly shared his praise for James in the past, and saw Los Angeles’ potential up-close this postseason as the Lakers ousted the Warriors from the second round in six games.
Green will likely be looking for a multi-year deal that pays around $25 million-$30 million per season.
In 73 games this season, Green averaged 8.5 points, 7.2 rebounds and 6.8 assists.
