Comedian Leanne Morgan did not hold back on Today With Jenna & Friends when she opened up to Jenna Bush Hager about how “nervous” she felt while filming kissing scenes for her new Netflix sitcom, Leanne.
Morgan praised her “darling” and “beautiful” co-star Tim Daly, who plays her love interest on the show. “I was so nervous,” she admitted. But what made the experience worse was the natural deodorant she was wearing at the time.
When Bush Hager pointed out that natural deodorant is supposed to be “good for you,” Morgan fired back, “It’s good for you but it’s a lie you know, Jenna, it really doesn’t work.” Morgan recounted that her daughter, who is her personal makeup artist, had to let her know the deodorant was doing little to mask how nervous she was becoming in between takes.
“My baby is my makeup artist and she went up to me the first time I kissed him, I had pitted out and she said, ‘You smell like a shallot,'” she admitted, causing Bush Hager to laugh.
She added that Daly is the first man – other than her husband, Chuck Morgan – who she has kissed in over 30 years.
“I had to kiss little Tim Daly. And, let me tell you, I kissed his bottom teeth. I could feel his teeth because I haven’t kissed anyone but Chuck Morgan in 34 years,” she said.
The new sitcom, which was created by Two And A Half Men creator Chuck Lorre, follows a middle-aged woman whose life takes an unexpected turn when her husband of 33 years leaves her for someone else.
“Starting over when you’re a grandmother and in menopause isn’t exactly what she had in mind, but with the help of her family she will navigate this new chapter with grace, dignity and jello salad,” the official summary reads. The new show also stars Kristen Johnston, Ryan Stiles, and Celia Weston.
But the comedian noted on Today that her husband did not mind her filming kissing scenes withe the former Madame Secretary star.
“Then I had to say to Chuck Morgan, ‘I’m kissing Tim Daly in this episode, does that bother you?’ And he went, ‘No,’ because Chuck Morgan wants me to make money,” she continued.
When Bush Hager interjected to say Morgan’s husband likely didn’t mind because he “loves you and he knows you love him,” Morgan fired back with yet another hilarious quip.
“And he knows that I’m in menopause and he just knows I’m not cattin’ around and doing vulgar things,” she said. “Good lord, I’m too tired for that.”
Leanne premieres on Netflix July 31.
