More On:

HBO

Never Have I Ever star Poorna Jagannathan has been cast in a recurring role in Lanterns, HBO’s upcoming drama series based on the Green Lantern comics from DC.

The actress will join a strong cast that includes series regulars Kyle Chandler, Aaron Pierre, and Kelly Macdonald, as well as fellow recurring actor Garret Dillahunt.

The series, created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King, centers on new Green Lantern recruit John Stewart (played by Pierre) and the seasoned Hal Jordan (Chandler), two intergalactic law enforcement officers drawn into a shadowy, Earth-based mystery after investigating a murder in the heart of America.

According to Deadline, Jagannathan will portray Zoe, a woman who exudes confidence and grace in any situation, even in the spotlight. Just as sharp and strategic as the influential men around her, Zoe is rumored to be a love interest for John Stewart. Macdonald will play Hal’s love interest, Sheriff Kerry, while Dillahunt takes on the role of modern cowboy William Macon.

Lanterns is an eight-episode series produced by HBO in collaboration with Warner Bros Television and DC Studios. Chris Mundy serves as showrunner, with Lindelof and King also co-writing and executive producing. James Hawes, an executive producer, directed the first two episodes.

Jagannathan’s role in Lanterns fits with her busy schedule, as she is also a series regular on Deli Boys, an upcoming Hulu comedy from Onyx Collective.

She’s best known for her work in Never Have I Ever, she has also starred in Apple’s Wolfs. She is represented by Gersh, Untitled Entertainment, and Hansen Jacobson Teller.
