NextImg:Krygios vs. Yibing Wu odds, prediction: Tennis picks for Stuttgart Open Tuesday

The most polarizing tennis player is set to return on Tuesday.

Nick Kyrgios, who hasn’t played competitive singles since October, is scheduled to play World No. 54 Yibing Wu of China in Round 1 of the Stuttgart Open in Germany.

It is the first grass tournament of the year for every player on the field.

Despite the layoff, Kyrgios is still a prohibitive -475 favorite over Wu, who is coming off a disappointing clay swing after he had a minor breakout during the first three months of the year on hard courts.

There are a couple of reasons that Kyrgios is such a massive price despite this being his first match in eight months.

For one, he’s one of the most talented players in the world and, to be frank, is on another level compared to Wu.

Secondly, Kyrgios is a maestro on the lawn.

Not only did the mercurial Australian go to the Wimbledon finals last year, but he also led the ATP Tour with 12 wins on grass.

This will be Wu’s first grass match on the ATP Tour.

All things being equal, this looks like a terrific spot for Kyrgios.

But, all things aren’t equal.

One of these players is about to take part in his first competitive tennis match in eight months.

Kyrgios may breeze through this match, but there’s more than enough of a chance that he’s not at the races, and I’ll take the +340 to go against him.
