Kristin Chenoweth is “beyond proud” to be passing the torch — or rather, the wand — to Ariana Grande.

The Wicked alum, who originated the role of Glinda on Broadway in 2003, was asked by Andy Cohen on Thursday night’s (Nov. 21) Watch What Happens Live about Grande’s “incredible” performance as the iconic Good Witch in Wicked: Part One.

Chenoweth confessed that she “get[s] emotional” while talking about it, recalling that Grande “came to [her] dressing room” when she was 10 years old and told her, “‘I want to play Glinda,’ in her same voice.”

“And I said, in my same voice, ‘And you will!'” she continued.

Chenoweth shared that they “both squealed like dolphins” when Grande landed the audition, and regaled WWHL with a special moment they shared at the screening of the film, which hit theaters on Friday.

“After it was over she said, ‘Are you proud of me?'” Chenoweth remembered. “I said, ‘I’m beyond proud of you. You already made me proud just by who you are.’ She did homage to me, but she made the part hers, too.”

Cohen also saw the new film and “loved it,” prompting Chenoweth to ask, “Was it just me, or is the movie so good?”

The WWHL host echoed that the movie is “so good,” admitting that he initially “was saying it doesn’t need to be two parts.”

“But I am so glad it was two parts,” he explained. “Once I saw Part One, I was like, ‘Oh, I totally get it. This should be two parts.'”

Chenoweth also made sure to praise Grande’s co-star Cynthia Erivo, who stars as Elphaba, calling her performance “amazing.”

Jeff Goldblum, who plays The Wizard in the new film, shared on TODAY last week that he had also met a young Grande after performing in The Pillowman on Broadway, though he “hadn’t remembered that” until she reminded him.

“She told me halfway through the shoot,” he confessed. “She said, ‘You know we’ve met.'”
